Zudon · Steam Next Fest
NextFest Puzzle Pack Contest
The short version
I lost my solution key to the NextFest Puzzle Pack. If you can rebuild it — solve every puzzle in the pack in as few moves as you can — you could win [TBD: prize].
In case you’re a lawyer or a cop, the story is just for fun. Officially this is a promotional skill contest: winners are decided only by the scoring rules in Section 7, never by chance.
- How to enter Play the free Zudon demo signed into Steam, solve the NextFest Puzzle Pack puzzles, and press SUBMIT on each solution.
- How winners are picked [TBD: scoring rule] Ties go to whoever got there first. See Section 7 and Section 8.
- Prize [TBD: amount, number of winners]
- Ends [TBD: end date, time and time zone]. Solutions count only if our server receives them before then.
- Who can enter [TBD: minimum age], living in [TBD: eligible countries].
- Cost Free. No purchase, wishlist, review, follow or share is needed.
The Official Rules below are the binding terms. If anything in this summary differs from them, the Official Rules win.
1. Sponsor
The contest (the “Contest”) is run by [TBD: sponsor’s legal name — individual or company], [TBD: sponsor’s postal address] (the “Sponsor”). Questions about the Contest go to the contact in Contact.
2. Not affiliated with Valve
This contest is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Valve or Steam. Valve Corporation is not responsible for the Contest, and questions about it should go to the Sponsor, not to Valve or Steam Support.
3. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited.
No purchase or payment of any kind is needed to enter or win. The Zudon demo is free. Entry never requires buying anything, wishlisting, reviewing, rating, following or sharing anything. Buying the game or taking any of those actions does not improve your chances of winning. The Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
4. Eligibility
To enter you must be at least [TBD: 18, or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher] when you enter, and a legal resident of [TBD: list of eligible countries].
The following people cannot enter or win: the Sponsor; anyone who has worked on Zudon; and the immediate family members (spouse or partner, parents, children, siblings) and household members of any of them.
Residents of countries or regions subject to comprehensive United States sanctions (as administered by the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, OFAC), and anyone on a U.S. sanctions list, are not eligible, regardless of the list above.
5. Contest period
The Contest starts at [TBD: start date, time and time zone] and ends at [TBD: end date, time and time zone] (the “Contest Period”).
All times are judged by the clock on the Sponsor’s server at the moment a submission is received, not by the clock on your device and not by when you solved the puzzle. If you are offline, the game may hold a solution and send it later; a solution that reaches the server after the Contest Period ends does not count, even if you solved it before the end. Submit while you are online to be safe.
6. How to enter
- Play the Zudon demo on Steam while signed in to your Steam account.
- Solve the puzzles in the NextFest Puzzle Pack: [TBD: list of puzzle ids / names].
- Submit each solution with the in-game SUBMIT button during the Contest Period.
Your entry is the set of solutions the Sponsor’s server has received from your Steam account. You may submit as often as you like; for each puzzle, only your best solution counts (see Section 7).
One Steam account per person. Anyone found entering with more than one account, or entering on behalf of someone else, is disqualified. The entrant is the person who owns the Steam account that submitted the solutions.
7. Judging
This is a game of skill. Entries are ranked only by the following rule:
[TBD: scoring rule.] Proposed, not yet decided: an entrant qualifies only after solving every puzzle in the pack. Their score is the total of their lowest move count on each pack puzzle, counting only solutions received during the Contest Period. The lowest total wins.Rankings are worked out from the solutions received by the Sponsor’s server, never from data stored on your device. Before any prize is awarded, every solution of each potential winner is replayed from the puzzle’s starting position to check that every move is legal and that it solves the puzzle in the number of moves claimed. A solution that fails this check does not count.
The Sponsor judges the Contest. The Sponsor’s decisions on all matters relating to the Contest are final and binding.
8. Tiebreakers
Several entrants may reach the same score, including the best possible score, so ties are expected. Ties are broken by the steps below, in order. Ties are never broken by a random draw.
- First to get there. The tied entrant who reached their score first wins. The moment an entrant reached their score is the time the Sponsor’s server received the last of the solutions that make up that score. For each puzzle, the solution that counts is the earliest one received with that entrant’s lowest move count, so sending the same move count again later never changes this time.
- [TBD: what happens if entrants are still tied after step 1, i.e. identical server receive times — for example, the prize for those places is split equally].
9. Computer assistance
[TBD: computer-assistance policy] — whether solutions found with solvers, scripts or other software are allowed, prohibited, or handled some other way.10. Prize
[TBD: prize amount and currency, number of winners, amount per place], paid by [TBD: payment method]. [TBD: who pays transfer or currency-conversion fees].
Prizes cannot be transferred, substituted or exchanged, except that the Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value at its discretion.
11. Winner notification and claiming
Potential winners will be contacted by [TBD: Steam / email / Discord] within [TBD: number] days after the Contest Period ends. A potential winner has [TBD: e.g. 14] days from that contact to respond and to return any documents required by Section 12. If they do not, or if they are ineligible or fail verification, they forfeit the prize and it passes to the next-ranked eligible entrant.
12. Verification and paperwork
Before awarding a prize, the Sponsor may require a potential winner to provide proof of age, identity and residence, and to sign a declaration that they are eligible and have followed these rules. The Sponsor may also require tax forms before paying, such as IRS Form W-9 for U.S. persons or Form W-8BEN for others.
Winners are responsible for any taxes on their prize. The Sponsor may be required to withhold tax from a prize or to report it to tax authorities.
13. Disqualification
The Sponsor may disqualify any entrant who, in the Sponsor’s reasonable judgement:
- cheats, or exploits a bug or error in the game, its servers or the Contest;
- modifies or tampers with the game client, its save data, or its communication with the Sponsor’s servers;
- submits solutions from, or on behalf of, a Steam account that is not their own;
- enters with more than one Steam account;
- [TBD: uses automated solvers, if Section 9 prohibits them];
- gives false information, or otherwise breaks these rules or acts to disrupt the Contest.
14. Privacy
The Privacy Notice below explains what data the Contest uses and how. By entering, you acknowledge that notice.
15. Sponsor’s rights
If the Contest cannot run as planned because of bugs, technical failures, fraud, tampering or anything else beyond the Sponsor’s reasonable control that affects its fairness or integrity, the Sponsor may cancel, suspend or modify the Contest. The Sponsor may amend these rules. Any amendment will be published on this page as a new version with a new “Last updated” date, and every earlier version stays available at the version history.
16. Limitation of liability and release
[TBD: limitation of liability and release wording, for legal review.]17. Governing law
These rules are governed by the laws of [TBD: jurisdiction]. [TBD: venue for disputes, for legal review]
18. Winners list
The winners list will be available [TBD: where it will be posted, and/or how to request it] after winners are verified.
